From 14th November, 2005, schools may receive enquiries from parents who have new rights under the Act. Given that this legislation is new for everyone, staff should seek advice from the Children and Families Department helpline before responding to any queries. SNIP are operating this helpline for staff and parents on behalf of the Department on 0131 536 0583. Answers to queries may not be available immediately but one of the SNIP staff will take details of the enquiry. Either Iona McLeod or Claire Edwards of SNIP and the ASL Development Team, will get back with an answer within seven days at the latest.
Parents are also advised of the appointment of Adam O’Brien as Parent and Pupil Support Manager for Additional Support for Learning who can be contacted on 0131 469 3444 or at adam.obrien@edinburgh.gov.uk. Adam is also the Contact Officer for Coordinated Support Plans as detailed in the Guidelines.

Monitoring of the Implementation of the ASL Act in the City of Edinburgh
The ASL Steering Group has set up a Monitoring and Evaluation sub-group to oversee how the ASL Act is being implemented within Edinburgh. This group has written an Improvement Plan which outlines how this will be done and by whom. The plan is available for information only and staff are not expected to comment in the document.
