What support do we offer?
We provide support to children and young people with sensory impairment, communication impairment, challenging behaviour and additional support needs, including pre-school children with additional support needs and pre-school children with autistic spectrum disorder.
Who can receive our services?
The Service supports children and young people, their families and the nursery or school they attend, offering advice and helping to establish teaching programmes. We work closely with neighbourhood teams and school clusters to support children at a local level.
The Service for children with visual impairment operates across the Lothians via a service level agreement.
How do school staff access the service?
An open referral system operates and children and young people can be referred at any time throughout the year. Referrals are normally made by consultant paediatricians, clinical medical officers, educational psychologists and headteachers amongst others.
The referral form seeks to obtain as much background information as possible in order to best target the support. (Referral forms available online)
